Tires are a very important part of any vehicle; they are the only part of the car that makes contact with the ground. Tires play a huge role in how your vehicle interacts with the road; traction, stopping distance, handling, etc. are all largely factored by the tires you buy.
With that being said, you could buy the best tires possible but it is inevitable that their treads will eventually wear down and have greatly reduced performance. So the question is, when is a good time to start worrying about losing when to start looking for new tires before you lose that performance you’re used to?
Well, there is one test that can be done. It is named as the penny or quarter test. you can take a quarter and place it into the center of the tread between two ridges with the image of Lincoln’s or Washington’s head facing toward you; if you see the top of Washington’s head, then you should consider thinking about getting new tires. To know when you need new tires, do the same with a penny, if you see the top of Lincoln’s head, you need to replace your tires.
